20 – 21 May & 20 – 21 October Belfast 2026
HTANI are delighted to be joining the EA and the Memorial de la Shoah to offer history teachers some high-quality professional development on the teaching of the Holocaust and aspects of the Troubles including the use of oral histories and the challenges around celebrations of our shared history.
Most of the memory challenges that still divide Europe today are directly linked to the Second World War, and to the Holocaust in particular. To address this, Memorial de la Shoah and a consortium of European partners have initiated in 2015 a European framework program named the Holocaust as starting point (HSP).
It consists of regional and transnational teacher trainings from neighbouring countries, sharing divergent historical narratives or facing common challenges.
This training programme is co-organized by the Education Authority, HTANI, and the Paris’ Mémorial de la Shoah.
The beginner, two-day session, on May 20th and 21st in Belfast, will focus on the fundamentals of Holocaust education and antisemitism and will provide pedagogical tools on Holocaust education.
The second advanced two-day session, in Belfast on October 20th and 21st, will tackle more complex Holocaust-related topics and will address the Troubles .
All beginner teachers in Holocaust education are welcome to apply.
To be selected, you must commit to attend both trainings; there is capacity for 30 teachers. Certificates will be handed out after the second training only
Fill in this application form to let EA know if you are attending. If possible please attend with your shared education partner school.
