Background

As part of the UK Government’s plans to mark Northern Ireland’s centenary, an independent Historical Advisory Panel was established in August 2020, bringing together academics with a range of expertise and historical perspectives, tasked with ensuring that the historical facts of Northern Ireland’s centenary are understood in their fullest context, guided by the Principles for Remembering. To promote strengthening of public understanding of the historical context around the centenary and the creation of Northern Ireland, the Historical Advisory Panel, supported by the Northern Ireland Office, and in collaboration with HTANI, would like to use this opportunity to encourage our young people to engage with the NI centenary.

The aim of this competition is to ensure that students across Northern Ireland are offered this unique opportunity to utilise their skills to analyse the historical background to the formation of Northern Ireland, through delving deeper into this topic in a way that enhances their factual knowledge of this period and engages fully with the wider historical context.
